Match preview by Cayden Sands
Overview:
Thackley return to the road on Saturday when they travel to Rossington Main in their penultimate away fixture of the season.
This game comes at a perfect time for the team following their 2-0 victory away at Barton Town on Tuesday night that helped the side secure their first victory of 2025 in some style.
After a very strong squad made the longest away trip of the season on Tuesday, there will be a hope amongst supporters that a similarly strong side will be available for this latest test as the race for the play-offs continues.
There was a welcome return to the starting lineup mid week for Lewis Sugden after injury and suspension, whilst Antony Brown was back on the score sheet with a very well taken brace to secure the 3 points.
The Opposition:
Rossington Main have had a mixed campaign as we enter the season’s run in, with the club currently sitting 12th in the league table and on a total of 39 points.
‘Rosso’ have also endured a difficult run of form recently, with their last victory coming against Parkgate at Roundwood on 18th January, whilst their last victory at home came against Knaresborough Town on 21st December.
Despite this run however, the season has yielded some positive results for the team, including a 2-2 draw away against league leaders Silsden AFC in their most recent game, alongside comfortable victories against teams such as Pickering Town and Goole AFC, those victories coming by 4-1 and 3-0 scorelines.
The team has managed to score an abundance of goals in all competitions this season, with their top scorer being Manasse Kianga, who currently sits on 13 goals, whilst Ross Hannah sits just behind him with 11 goals to his name.
Previous Meeting:
This season’s meeting at the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield was an entertaining affair for any neutral spectators, with Thackley managing to race into an early 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Finn Donovan in the 18th and 26th minutes.
However, Rossington would mount a late comeback and secure a 2-2 draw thanks to Mitchell Langton and Ashley Worsfold.
