Match preview by Cayden Sands
Overview:
Thackley finally return to the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield after an extended period on Saturday when they welcome Parkgate FC.
Since the team’s previous home game on 21st December, a combination of bad weather and the layout of the fixture schedule has seen them on their travels for the whole of January.
However, as February begins, the Dennyboys will hope that this game will signal the start of another strong run of form after an unsuccessful January that saw narrow defeats to Knaresborough Town and Hallam FC.
To do that though the Dennyboys will need to adapt as Lewis Sugden and Ben Grech-Brooksbank both miss the game, serving the last match of their respective bans for red cards against Knaresborough Town and Hallam respectively.
The Opposition:
Visiting the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield are Parkgate FC, who have so far had a mixed season in the league.
The club currently sits in 13th position, with them having had some notable victories throughout the course of the campaign, including a 3-1 victory over play-off chasing Beverley Town and some high scoring affairs against the likes of Frickley Atheltic and Winterton Rangers, both of which were won by the odd goal in a 3-2 affair.
However, the ‘Steelmen’ have also struggled against sides from all ends of the table, with results including a 4-1 loss to top of the table Silsden AFC, a 4-2 loss to Barton Ton and a 2-0 loss to Bottesford Town.
Out of the players currently registered with the club, the current leader of the goal scoring chart is Ross Duggan, who has netted five goals in all competitions, whilst Jacob Pearson sits behind him on four.
Previous Meeting:
This season’s encounter at Roundwood between Parkgate and Thackley signalled the end of a good run of form for the Dennyboys.
Despite Danny Forrest’s side going into the game as the favourites, goals from Duggan and Jamie Austin would seal a 2-0 victory on the day in a game that saw the visitors dominate the chances, but also saw them ultimately unable to take them.
