Overview:
The run in to the end of the NCEL Premier Division season continues on Friday when Thackley make the short trip to the Horsfall Community Stadium to face Albion Sports.
This game comes with the pressure of being a must win occasion for the Dennyboys following last week’s 2-1 defeat to Handsworth FC, a result which leaves the team level on points with fellow play off chasers Beverley Town in the league table.
Albion will also have a point to prove in this fixture, with them being a point behind the Dennyboys in the table but with a game in hand. A victory for Thackley could put them 4 points ahead of tonight's hosts with just two games of the season to play.
The Opposition:
Since their previous encounter with Thackley back in November, Albion Sports’ season has been an overall positive one.
The ‘Lions’ have picked up some notable results along the way in their quest for a play off spot, including a 2-1 triumph away at fellow promotion contenders Golcar United, a 4-3 victory away at local rivals Eccleshill United and a 3-1 win away at Penistone Church.
The team also managed an impressive run in this season’s Isuzu FA Vase, with their run coming to an end in the competition’s fourth round against north east club Crook Town.
Goals haven’t been hard to come by this season for Albion, with the club’s leading goalscorer being Nathan Cartman, who has managed an outstanding 32 goals in all competitions so far this season, with 24 of those coming in the league.
Previous Meeting:
The previous meeting between Thackley and Albion came at the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield on 26th November, with this game being a case of a classic Bradford derby.
Amongst the madness of both teams being reduced to 10 men, the Dennyboys would go on to pick up an important three points on the occasion, with goals from Joe Mitchell, Luke Rhodes and Antony Brown securing a 3-1 victory for the team.
