Thackley play their second of three consecutive home games today when they entertain Knaresborough Town at Dennyfield. Knaresborough are a well-established club, representing the town since they were founded in 1902. This season, Knaresborough did not get off to the best of starts, with just two points from their opening five games. However, they have had an upturn in form in the last couple of weeks and are unbeaten in their last three games. Two wins and a draw has lifted them into twelfth place in the table, with nine points from eight matches. A victory against Rossington Main at Manse Lane started this run, before the visit of Tadcaster Albion and a comprehensive four nil win. In Knaresborough’s latest game, they shared the points with Albion Sports at Horsfall, a very late Lewis Waddington goal for the Lions stopping them from completing a hat trick of wins. Knaresborough’s top scorer is the well travelled Adam Priestley with five goals to his name so far this season.
Thackley and Knaresborough have had quite a few tight games over the six years that they have played each other in the Premier Division. However, Thackley took all six points from last year’s league games. A 5-0 win at Manse Lane in February was followed by a 2-0 victory here at Dennyfield in March.
Thackley come into this game in fourth place in the table, following two emphatic league victories and a slightly less emphatic squeaky bum win against Ilkley in a mid week League Cup clash. In both league wins, the players showed off their potential for creating chances in abundance and converting them into comfortable victories. A clean sheet and three goals against Goole, was surpassed by last weekend’s total domination of the Winterton game and the 5-1 win was scant reward for the chances created. Tuesday’s game was a little different, Ilkley were a busy side and were even busier when they were reduced to ten men. Thackley initially capitalised on the extra man, scoring twice, but two quick fire Ilkley goals changed the game. It was down to Thackley’s resolve that they fought back and Ben Grech-Brooksbank got his foot to a very late route one ball and guided it past the Ilkley keeper to win the tie. All of which added to the excitement of the night.
Thackley will be hoping to return to their league form and carry on from the game at Winterton. Knaresborough will be looking to extend their own unbeaten run. All things point to another close game.
