Thackley looked comfortable, then let two goal lead slip.

Thackley 2 Bridlington Town 3.

In their sixth home game of the season Thackley played hosts to Bridlington Town on Saturday. Games between the two sides are usually tight affairs; honours were even last season when the teams met three times, each winning once, the third game ending all square. Thackley would be hoping to put Tuesday night’s poor performance against Padiham behind them and get back to winning ways. Tom Marshall came in for the unavailable Joe Hughes and Craig Bentham returned to the centre of the defence.

Thackley were forced into making a change after only ten minutes, Matt Broadley pulling up with a hamstring injury, he was replaced by Sam Cable. Most of the game was being played out in mid field, neither side creating much up front. A Jack Walters free kick was deflected for a corner and Nicky Matthews hit the side netting after getting on the end of a Cable cross. Matthews tried to loop the ball over James Hitchcock and Bridlington had a couple of shots which were way off target. Thackley created the first real chance on the half hour, Dan Broadbent getting clear but his shot was fired straight at Hitchcock. Three minutes later and Thackley were in front, a quick throw out from Luke Wilson to Tom Marshall, he found Matthews, Hitchcock could only deflect his shot into the path of Cable who slotted home. A couple of Bridlington efforts came to nothing before the Dennyboys increased their lead on the stroke of half time. Again it came from a Matthews, Marshall combination and Cable was again on hand to apply the finish. Thackley were happy to take their two goal advantage into the break.

Half time: Thackley 2 Bridlington Town 0.

Bridlington very nearly reduced the arrears at the start of the second half but Wilson somehow got down pushing a deflected shot, which was sneaking in at the far post, for a corner. Minutes later Broadbent got clear down the left and his shot across goal went narrowly wide. Bridlington’s first goal came after an hour, a soft free kick just outside the box, one of several that referee Jack Hall gave the away side throughout the afternoon, was converted by Joel Sutton, the ball going in off of the inside of the post. Craig Bentham picked up a yellow card as Bridlington looked to get back on level terms. The equalising goal came with just six minutes of normal time remaining and was gifted the away side, a mix up between Wilson and Kesi Omolokun let in Brett Agnew to score. Two minutes later the Seasiders went in front, Jake Day nipping in at the near post to guide the ball into the net. Thackley, not for the first time this season, had surrendered a two goal lead.

Thackley 2 Bridlington Town 3.

It was at least a much better performance than Tuesday’s night; at the break Thackley looked comfortable. As they did for the majority of the second half, although Bridlington were doing most of the attacking, a defeat looked unlikely. The Seasiders capitalised on a couple of defensive errors and Thackley were left with nothing to show for their efforts.
